I always check out tree holes. What a surprise to find a flying squirrel inside this one! This is the first one I've ever seen.

It got down to -1 Fahrenheit recently and snow has covered the ground for a while, so I wanted to see if the squirrel I saw last time was alive and possibly needed some food (I brought peanuts). I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are at least two in there, possibly even three, but I only saw two at a time, so I couldn't be sure. They were happy to get the peanuts I brought and were chattering away.

Thankfully, the flying squirrels survived the couple record-breaking -18 degree nights we recently had. Yet another surprise---there are three in there, not two! They were delighted to receive the peanuts I brought and all three worked together to move them up inside the tree somewhere.
