My Coca-Cola Bottle Collection

Coca-Cola was first served in 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia.  John S. Pemberton, a pharmacist originated the syrup and sold it to others.  He was trying to make a patent medicine to aid those who suffered from nervousness, headaches, or stomach problems.  At first, the syrup was mixed with water, but in 1887, Willis E. Venable mixed it with carbonated water, and Coca-Cola was made.  Pemberton sold his interest in the company to Venable and a local businessman, George S. Lowndes, in 1888.  Later that year, Asa Griggs Candler, an owner of a pharmaceutical company, and some business friends became partners in Coca-Cola.  A short time later, they purchased the rest of the company.  After some other transactions, Asa Candler became the sole owner of Coca-Cola for a grand total of $2300.  The first ad for Coca-Cola appeared in the "Atlanta Journal" on May 29, 1886.  Since that time the drink has been sold in all parts of the world and in a variety of bottles.  The "waisted" bottle was first used in 1916.  "Coca-Cola" written in script was trademarked in 1893.  "Coke" was registered in 1945.  To learn more about the history of Coca-Cola, click here.

I have many Coca-Cola bottles in my collection.  Most have not been photographed yet.  Here, you will find my favorites along with as much information about them as I can provide.

Coke has been my favorite carbonated beverage since I was a kid.  I was very disappointed when they changed the formula in the late 80's and began using high-fructose corn syrup instead of cane sugar.  Click here to read an article about it from the Ann Arbor, MI News on 9-27-04.
