Lyle has been very helpful in my monarch-raising endeavors.  This summer, he supervised the feedings of 199 monarchs I raised and released.  He is so in tune with the monarchs' behavior that as soon as they pull in their proboscis and move their wings a little, he starts whining to alert me to grab the butterfly before it flies off.  He is also very good once I let them go in the backyard.  He doesn't chase after them---he just watches them fly off.  Here he is supervising two monarchs nectaring from a dish (upper right corner of each photo).

Lyle's half-birthday.  I photographed him enjoying the yard.

Even though I haven't kept balls in the outdoor sink for several years, Lyle will never forget they were once in there.  Here he is barking and signaling that he wants a ball from there.

Hanging out in the yard.  He now has flourishing strawberry clover mixed in with the grass.  There is no need to ever apply fertilizer since the clover fixes nitrogen from the atmosphere and adds it to the soil where it can be taken up by the grass.

We got a white Christmas this year with fresh snow falling late last night and today.  Here are some photos of Lyle enjoying the snow.

Lyle's Birthday photo shoot.  There was no holiday tree this year, so I had to set up a different backdrop.

Here are my favorites, shown in the order taken.  In the second to last photo, he's making a funny face and only showing his bottom teeth.  The last photo in this section was the last photo of the shoot.

Here are the rest, including some funny ones where he is obviously bored or trying to leave.  The first photo is actually the first one taken of the day---I just barely hit the shutter in time to capture his yawn of anxiousness.

He looks pretty happy in these two taken off set, after he had just learned how to remove the hat.

He seemed most content for the next three rows of photos, taken with incandescent lighting without a flash, and most importantly, without the birthday hat!

I finished the set with a few flash photos without the hat.
